As the days warm, we're looking for ways to stay out of the kitchen. For pickleball players it's a year long feeling. For those not in the know, the "kitchen" in the designated 7 foot no-go zone on either side of the net to prevent players from smashing every hit...how civilized!
Pickleball sounds can be heard on courts morning, noon and night....this fun, fast-paced and inclusive sport has quickly become the newest onsite activity at meetings. For a sport that has been around for more than 50 years, this "overnight sensation" which was created by taking inspiration from ping pong, badminton and tennis, has grown so rapidly that many hotels and resorts across the country and abroad are playing catch up by investing capital so they too can get in the game.
From teambuilding to afternoon activities, the offerings for corporate groups are endless. And, similar to golf with its foursomes, pickleball offers a smaller court size that helps facilitate more social interaction and networking. As an added bonus, the cost of entry and equipment is low and any skillset can join in easily and have some level of success . At this rate, it will be unusual for attendees to have never played or seen the sport, making it a perfect addition to any group activity lineup….even NYC will be opening 14 courts in Central Park starting on April 7!
